This website is managed by the Department of Home Affairs (the Department). Why we collect your personal information

We collect limited information when you visit this website to:

This website uses third-party tools to collect information about visitor interactions for the purposes listed above.

We use Google Analytics, to understand how users are engaging with the website and help to identify issues.

To improve the experience of our website visitors, we also use cookies. Cookies are an industry standard, and are small text files that websites may place on your device when you visit the website.

This website also uses tracking pixels created by third parties, including Google, Meta and TikTok. These tracking pixels allow us to measure the effectiveness of our digital advertising and conduct user remarketing and audience targeting.

Your personal information will not be disclosed to an overseas recipient without your consent, or unless permitted by APP 6 and APP 8 in Schedule 1 to the Privacy Act.

  • restricting access to personal information to authorised staff who require it to perform their duties
  • applying multifactor authentication and other system safeguards to ensure that only approved users can access electronic records
  • protecting our networks and databases with firewalls, intrusion detection tools, and other security technologies
  • requiring our contracted service providers to implement appropriate protections and handle personal information securely
  • storing hard-copy records in locked areas or secure rooms that are accessible only to authorised personnel
  • regularly reviewing, updating, and testing our security systems, and providing ongoing training to staff to reinforce privacy and information-security responsibilities.

How you can access or correct your personal information

You can make a request for access and correction of your personal information under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) and the Privacy Act. The Department is committed to protecting the personal information with which it is entrusted in accordance with the Privacy Act.
